IPeerX Federation

IPeerX is made up of the 146 Service Providers (many of whom had been part of the Pulver FWD "proof-of-concept" peering network) who have agreed to exchange traffic on either a commercial or non-commercial basis. This VoIP peering network has been in operation successfully for three years. It represents approximately 4,504,483 IP Telephone users worldwide. We are dedicated to building this network of IP communications users worldwide and empowering VoIP Service Providers who join the federation to complete more and more end-to-end IP voice calls. While we have commercialized the proof-of-concept network that Jeff Pulver built we have remained true to the ultimate vision of universal IP to IP communications. IPeerX remains true to its roots by continuing to offer the free peering Jeff put in place in the beginning. With carrier code dialing users of of the IPeerX network can still complete calls to users on other peered VoIP networks. Our aim is to maximize our network and from a commercial point of view to provide a simple, reliable and secure way to cut across the artificial boundaries that force service providers to complete calls via PSTN.

How It Works

An end-user originates a VoIP call through his service provider (ITSP). The ITSP searches for a way to complete the call by surveying possible routes or trunks. To survey the IPeerX route the ITSP sends an "invite" message to IPeerX or query our proprietary, secure, and custom ENUM database for the called number. If the number (or non-numeric VoIP address) is reachable via the IPeerX network and any call thresholds are met the call is completed through IPeerX. Only upon successful completion of a call is the customer charged and that charge is a guaranteed fraction of what the call would have cost had it been completed through the PSTN
